Default Returning Player, Codex Arena?

Hey all, i really miss guild wars and want to check it out again.

Anyway, what's Codex Arena like? Are the only ones left playing the elite? I usually play with one friend so we wouldn't have a group of four. I just hope I can have fun but I'm worried that all the casuals are gone.

The only way to know is to try it out.

Personally, I hate it, but I have friends that enjoy it every once in a while.

Codex is dead and boring and almost buried, but you are free to try.

You just get a limited amount of skills to choose from. This mostly result in very, i mean very, lame builds with a lot of hexes or a lot of melee.

If you wanna have fun with a group of people, go pve/ab/ha.....imho of course^^

The original idea for Codex was great, Anet gave us something we wanted - Sealed Deck. It's also clear that they spent alot of time working on it in attempt to make it right. The implemented 6 hour rotations, a list of blacklisted skills, and a new title.

Unfortunatly Anet kind of forgot everything else that makes a play format attractive. The title, being mutually exclusive with Commander was a big mistake IMO. Alot of people who care about PvP, or wanted the statue for their HoM already got their commander rank, and thus have no reason to play Codex.

Not to mention assuming you already have ranks in Commander, additional ranks of Codex doesn't contribute to a higher Balth faction cap until your Codex title has surpassed your Commander title. (Also while we are talking about faction, you barely get any from Codex making HA much better for making money)

In addition, Anet didn't implement any new maps (or even the HB maps) making Codex just as stale as every other game format. Nor did they change the point system for the title track, for alot of people just getting to r1 with a 5 consec requirement is a major grind, and since there are no henchman or a way to enter without 4 people most people have no chance of getting a group unless they want to take the pugs there which are always terrible.

In conclusion save yourself the trouble, codex isn't worth it

It's dead. The only people that play it, are top pvp'ers who just want to get the title.

To use a parable, the reason Codex gets so little constructive support is not because that the "IWAY" build players are gone, it is because the players who came up with the "IWAY" builds are gone. Codex arena is probably the only format players not be able to rely on pvxwiki and have to think for themselves profession by profession, skill by skill to come up with a half decent build.

it died because it was a mini pvxwiki after 10 minutes all teams are running same builds, f-ing gay imo. sounded like a good idea until i played if for a couple of days. RA is even more fun than codex.

just go to gladiator forum, codex arena subsection. you'll find a whole multitude of reasons why codex failed. My belief is the lack of ladder system, as it ended up just being TA all over again: top players farming the noobs.

I miss Hero Battles. It's not the players fault Anet left a huge loop hole in the z combat mission, where all they did about is is complain about it. They could have fixed it.
